SUMMARY:THURSDAY NIGHT READ
DESCRIPTION:What happens when childhood innocence collides with the reality of war? \nSet in Burundi in the early 1990s\, Small Country follows 10-year-old Gabriel\, a boy enjoying an ordinary childhood filled with friends\, adventure\, stolen mangoes\, and neighborhood mischief. \nBut as political tensions rise and violence spreads through Burundi and neighboring Rwanda\, Gabriel’s world begins to change. The childhood he once knew is slowly replaced by fear\, loss\, displacement\, and questions about identity and belonging. \nThrough Gabriel’s eyes\, Gaël Faye explores innocence\, family\, identity\, war\, and what happens when history enters the lives of ordinary people. \nThis Thursday\, we’re not just reading the book — we’re talking about the world it reveals. \nWhat happens to a person when the world they knew no longer exists? \nThursday Night Read | THE BAR\nCome ready to read. Reflect. Discuss. Connect.

SUMMARY:Sky Full of Elephants: A Novel By Cebo Campbell
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be Black in a world without white people? \n“Bold and imaginative.” — Tananarive Due \nImagine waking up in a world where the racial order you have always known has disappeared. What happens to identity\, power\, community\, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are? \nIn Cebo Campbell’s thought-provoking debut\, all the white people in America walk into the nearest body of water. One year later\, Charlie Brunton\, a Black professor at Howard University\, receives an unexpected call from his estranged nineteen-year-old daughter\, Sidney. Their journey across a transformed America becomes a search for answers neither is prepared to find. \nBut this is more than a journey between a father and daughter. It is an exploration of race\, belonging\, trauma\, healing\, and the complicated work of understanding ourselves and one another.
